The facelifted 2027 BMW i7 ultra-luxury electric sedan will arrive at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in China on April 22 with a new Gen6 high-voltage battery-pack manufactured by Croatia-based Rimac Technology.

Delivered ready for assembly at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing – where BMW exclusively builds the 7 Series – the high-voltage battery combines BMW Group’s Gen6 4695 lithium-ion cylindrical cells with its Gen5 module-based technology.

BMW is still mute about the figures, but it said offers 20 percent higher volumetric energy density than the prismatic cells used in Gen5 and “enables the new BMW i7 to achieve a significantly increased range” as well as faster charging time.

But the outgoing i7 model uses a large 105.7 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery-pack with a range of up to 387 miles (approx. 624 km). It charges from 10–80 percent in 34 minutes at a rate of 195 kW.

“We are quickly rolling out the technologies of the Neue Klasse across our entire model portfolio – including, of course, in our all-electric luxury sedan. The teams of both companies have developed a tailor-made solution for the new BMW i7,” says Dr. Thomas Engelhardt, Senior VP Development High-Voltage Storage and Charging at the BMW Group.

The all-new i7, the brand’s top-of-the-range all-electric model, is the first BMW Group battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to feature the jointly developed battery system, following the announcement of their technology partnership in 2023.

Mate Rimac, Founder and President of Rimac Group, CEO and CTO Bugatti Rimac says : “BMW has always been known for pushing engineering to the highest level, which made this collaboration especially exciting for us.”

“Together, we developed a high-voltage battery system that unlocks the full potential of the new cylindrical cells in record time, delivering significant improvements in energy, range, and charging performance. We are proud to now see this system being produced at scale at our new Rimac Campus.”
