How The Engine Immobilizer System Of Your Car Works.

The engine immobilizer system of your car is a theft prevention system used by your car. The usefulness of this system can not be overemphasized as it reduces the chances of your car to get stolen. What the system basically does is to prevent a thief who does not have your car keys from stealing your car. Even when they get their way into your car, they won’t be able to start the car.
According to research studies, there are 40% fewer car thefts since immobilizers were introduced into cars.
Stick around and keep reading to understand properly how this engine immobilizer system works.
This is how it works
When you insert the key of your car in the ignition switch, the transponder chip in the key’s head transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will start only when the electronic code in the chip corresponds to the ID code of your car.
We previously made a post on “Precautions You Should Observe When Using A Key With Transponder Chip” ; go through it so you know how to properly handle your car keys with transponder chip.
On the other hand, the car won’t start if there is no transponder chip present in the key. It won’t also start if the key is not legitimate.
The engine immobilizer system is automatically set when the key is removed from the ignition switch. The indicator light will start blinking or flashing to show the system is set.
Inserting the correct key in the ignition system automatically cancels the system, which enables the engine to start. The indicator light will then go off.
In a situation where you make a duplicate key without the right programming of the key, you’ll not be able to cancel the system or start the engine.
