Ex-MOUAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Otunta, Dies In A Crash With His Lexus GX 470 (PHOTOS)

The 5th Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta has died in a motor accident.

The academic don died in an auto crash with his Lexus GX 470. He was on his way to Enugu from his hometown. This is happening a month after his tenure came to an end as Vice Chancellor of MOUAU.

Prof. Francis Otunta was the 2019 Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He  announced the final results of the Imo governorship election in Owerri that declared Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP winner of the election.

Prof Otunta completed his tenure as the fifth Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in February 2021 after his appointment in December 2015.

Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta is a Nigerian academic. He was the fifth Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture. This followed his appointment in December 2015 and completed his tenure February 2021.
Prior to his appointment as 5th Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Otunta had previously worked as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Benin. He was also a former Rector of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana. He held the post from 2006–2014.
 Prof Francis O. Otunta took the mantle of leadership as the Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike from Prof Hillary Edeoga officially on 1 March 2016.
