Jeep Updates The Compass CUV For 2022 With A New interior Layout And Level 2 Semi-Autonomous Driving
After lots of teases, the 2022 Jeep Compass has finally arrived for the European market with the American market to follow suit. Although technically a facelift, the compact high-rider is the brand’s first model to offer Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, and it boasts visual updates inside and out and a revised powertrain family.
The changes outside pale in comparison to the updates in the cabin. The exterior features a larger grille area with a mesh design in the front bumper. It gets redesigned headlights and fog lights, plus the seven-slat grille is massaged ever so slightly. On the inside, an 8.4-inch touchscreen still comes standard, but pictured below is Jeep’s latest 10.1-inch screen with the newer Uconnect5 infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Another available feature is the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, which will adorn the higher trim Compass models.
This interior looks far more premium than the existing Compass as it almost reminds us of larger Jeep models like the Grand Cherokee inside.
While in the U.S. the Compass is powered exclusively by a 180-hp 2.4-litre inline-4 that can be had with a manual or automatic transmission (6-speed or 9-speed depending on the model), buyers elsewhere have several options to choose from. One of these is a plug-in hybrid setup. Dubbed 4xe, the powertrain relies on a 1.3-litre inline-4 up front and an electric motor at the rear. Output ranges from 190 to 240 hp, and an 11.4-kilowatt-hour battery provides a short range of pure electric driving.
