Mercedes driver and 7-times Formular 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton is really impressed after his low-performing F1 car received a $1 million upgrade that he hopes will allow him to fight Dutch-Belgian racing driver, Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes team had last week unveiled the incredible new F1 car with six upgrades that cost $1million in parts alone.

Mercedes factory operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week to come up with a new package since scrapping this year’s design after the first 60-minute practice session in Bahrain.

And the 38 year old British-born F1 driver is already delighted by the difference after he briefly topped the time sheets at the Monaco Grand Prix before eventually finishing fourth.

Hamilton, whose mighty performance secured his second podium of 2023 in today’s race at Barcelona, said :

“I’ve generally had an amazing day. I’ve really enjoyed driving.

“I want to say a big, big thank you to everyone back in the factory, because to build and design and develop a car is not an easy thing, and everyone has put so much time in, so many hours of hard work to have us here.

“I’m glad we were able to keep it on-track for them, and I think we got a lot of data.

“It’s not the place to ultimately test an upgrade, but the car was feeling good.

“It’s a shame we weren’t as close as I hoped at the end of the session. But I definitely felt the improvements, and I’m grateful for that.

“We’ve just got to keep chipping away at it and see if we can squeeze any more juice out of the car.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is currently 53 points clear at the top of the driver championship. The 2021 and 2022 Formula One World Champion has dominated this season, winning all 7 of the opening Grands Prix.
