Porsche’s electrification plans are much more modest than before. The brand continues to focus on new electric models, but is devoting just as much attention to new models with combustion engines. We now know which new Porsches are actually on the way.

“We have taken the final steps in adapting our model strategy. We are currently undergoing enormous changes. That’s why we are restructuring Porsche across the board,” said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume during the quarterly shareholder meeting. In the new plans, Porsche will continue to focus on electric models, but as was previously clear, combustion engines will also continue to play a major role at Porsche.

The current-generation Porsche Cayenne is making way for a fully electric Cayenne . It will be launched next year. So far, nothing new. What is new is that the Cayenne will continue to feature combustion engines. Initially, it seemed the current generation of the Cayenne would have a longer lifespan and be given a facelift. Porsche now says the Cayenne will continue to feature combustion engines “well into the 2030s” and that this will be more than just a refresh of the current model. A new generation, so Porsche seems to be saying. The same applies to the Panamera: it too will continue to feature combustion engines well into the next decade in a (thoroughly) updated form. “This goes beyond upgrades. These are new products that deliver innovations,” says CEO Blume.

The Porsche Cayenne is getting a model above it. We knew that. It was supposed to be a fully electric SUV positioned above the new electric Cayenne. Turns out, that all-electric large SUV has been postponed until further notice. Porsche is now discussing the introduction of an SUV model above the Cayenne, featuring both combustion engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains. So it seems that this new flagship SUV will first have combustion engines and only later become an EV.

The electric Porsche 718 is also in the works, but Porsche also mentions the existence of derivatives with combustion engines. Whether this means a new generation of 718s with combustion engines is coming, or that the current RS and GT4 RS versions will continue to exist for years to come, is unclear. And the electric Macan? It will get a completely new equivalent with combustion engines, which we expect will also simply be called the Macan.
