The Mazda CX-5 Wins Euro NCAP 5 Star Rating
The Mazda CX-5 has been awarded the maximum five stars in the latest Euro NCAP tests. The outstanding results include 90% for adult occupant protection, 89% for child protection, 93% for vulnerable road user protection, and 83% for safety systems.
Within the 90% achieved in the adult occupant protection category, the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test, with good knee and thigh protection. Protection in key body parts was rated as good or adequate, with very good results in the full-width rigid obstacle and side impact tests. In the demanding pole side impact test, protection remained at an adequate level. Oncoming impact performance was further improved by occupant displacement control and a well-executed side airbag. Protection against whiplash injury was exceptional in the front and rear, contributed by advanced eCall systems, secondary impact mitigation, and confirmed door and window functionality in the event of vehicle submersion.
The Mazda CX-5 scored 89% in the child protection category, earning maximum points for the 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies in the frontal offset and side impact tests. Automatic deactivation of the front passenger airbag allows for the safe use of a wide range of child restraint systems (CRS). A child presence warning system is also included, and all approved child seats were able to be installed correctly and safely.
In the vulnerable road user category, the new Mazda CX-5 performed well or adequately in a head-on collision and earned maximum points for lower limb protection. Its automatic emergency braking (AEB) system recognizes pedestrians and cyclists—including those approaching from behind—and performs exceptionally well in reversing and dooring scenarios. The model also scored maximum points for motorcyclist protection, resulting in an overall score of 93% in this category.
The all-new Mazda CX-5’s comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) contributed to its 83% Safety Assist rating. The Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system responded effectively to other vehicles, while standard seatbelt reminders and a direct driver monitoring system enhance everyday safety. The Lane Keeping Assist system gently corrects unintentional lane departures, with more forceful intervention when needed. The Speed Limit Assist system reliably recognizes local traffic signs, with the ability to adjust the speed to the driver’s preference.
