Ford Discontinues The Kuga (Escape) From Its Lineup With No Replacement

Ford is continuing its unusual strategy in Europe, which has already led to the shutdown of popular models such as the Fiesta, Ecosport, and Focus, with no announced successors in sight. Next on the list for discontinuation is one of the most popular SUV models on the continent—the Kuga, which will leave the production lines at the end of 2026.
According to German sources, Ford has already stopped production of the Escape, which is actually the American version of the Kuga. This compact SUV was assembled in a factory in Louisville (Kentucky) and will not receive a successor; in its place, a new pickup is coming to the production line. The same fate is expected to befall the European Kuga, which is currently in its third generation. In this way, the popular SUV becomes another victim of the strategy developed by the CEO of Ford, Jim Farley. This strategy has already led to the disappearance of numerous models, which were to be replaced by high-performance and “more fun” models to drive, as Farley announced two years ago.
After the shutdown of the Kuga, the American brand will remain on the Old Continent with only two passenger models featuring internal combustion engines: the Puma and Tourneo. The place of the Kuga will be taken by the highly anticipated Explorer EV.
This electric model relies on a 536-litre trunk, a more modern design, advanced cabin technology, and a 600-kilometer range to attract buyers. At the same time, the Kuga remains an extremely profitable model for the American manufacturer, boasting an 8% profit margin. Farley is confident it will be able to maintain that level of profitability with models like the Bronco, Mustang, and others. However, few believe that they will be able to achieve this, especially not in Europe.
