Skoda’s Popular SUV The Karoq To Get A Successor Soon

The fate of Škoda’s popular Karoq compact SUV has long been uncertain, but now it has been officially confirmed that it is getting a successor. The current generation, which has been on the market since 2017 and was redesigned in 2021, is nearing the end of its life cycle, and after the electric model Elroq was introduced last year, it remains an open question whether it will completely replace the version with classic engines.
Speaking to the press, Škoda CEO Klaus Zellmer confirmed that the Karoq will get a successor equipped with internal combustion engines. The larger Škoda Kodiaq should serve as the technical basis for the development of the new model.
It is estimated that Škoda will not introduce a completely new model line with a new name but that it will be the second generation Karoq. The design could be a bit more conservative compared to the one on the new Kodiaq.
As for powertrains, it is expected that gasoline and diesel engines will again be offered. Skoda will likely decide to at least partially electrify the powertrains. It remains to be seen whether it will go beyond the 48-volt mild hybrid system and whether the Karoq will also be offered in a plug-in hybrid version.
