Former professional footballer and Manchester City star, Sergio Agüero, is set to make a one-off appearance as a Formula E racing driver at the wheel of an all-electric Porsche 99X as part of a spectacular Miami event featuring top celebs.
As the highlight of an innovative Formula E content series (“Evo Sessions”), Porsche said that numerous celebrities will be driving the current cars, the GEN3 Evo race cars, of the Formula E teams.

“This is absolutely crazy : from footballer to racing driver in one of the fastest racing cars in the world,” says Agüero, ahead of driving the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric of the latest generation GEN3 Evo, which can accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just under 2 seconds.

“Every child is familiar with Porsche. The brand represents an iconic heritage, particularly in motorsport. With this in mind, I am absolutely delighted and would like to thank everyone involved for this unique opportunity. I want to learn as much as possible on my journey to Miami, and to represent the team as well as possible when we get there,” Agüero adds.
The Argentinian is currently receiving intensive training from the Porsche e-sports works team and testing himself in Porsche Motorsport’s state-of-the-art simulators as well as racetrack training at the wheel of road-going Porsche sports cars.

Agüero is also being supported by reigning Formula E world champion Pascal Wehrlein, who won the Formula E world title with Porsche last July and recently impressed with three pole positions in a row.
Speaking about Agüero’s participation in the event, Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E at Porsche said :
“Welcome to the team, Sergio! Training a non-motorsport athlete for such a challenge in such a short time is a huge task for us as a team, but also for him as an athlete. The 99X Electric is one of the best Formula racing cars in the world. To drive it demands a lot of respect and meticulous preparation.”
