GM Sets Hands-Free Caravan Record With 20 Super Cruise-enabled Models From Cadillac And Chevrolet

GM drove all 20 of its Super Cruise-enabled models in a record-breaking hands-free caravan across the Bay Bridge.
Record-breaking hands-free caravan included vehicles from GM’s brands like Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.
GM’s Super Cruise is now available on 20 vehicles, with its closest competitors offering nine or fewer hands-free models.
General Motors (GM) recently made history, driving all 20 of its Super Cruise-enabled models from brands like Cadillac and Chevrolet in a record-breaking hands-free caravan across the Bay Bridge linking San Francisco and Oakland.
Cadillac models in the caravan includes the CT4, CT5, Escalade, Lyriq and OPTIQ while the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado, Silverado EV, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse – all represented the Chevrolet brand.
Other Super Cruise-enabled models in the caravan includes the Acadia, HUMMER EV SUV, HUMMER EV Pickup, Sierra, Sierra EV, Yukon, Yukon XL – all from the GMC brand as well as Buick Enclave.
While the Cadillac VISTIQ and the Cadillac Escalade IQ are not part of caravan, GM said that the Super Cruise hands-free feature will be available on upcoming models from 2025.
Initially launched in 2017 as the industry’s first true hands-free advanced driver assistance system, GM’s Super Cruise is now available on 20 vehicles, with its closest competitors offering nine or fewer hands-free models.
“Plus, GM’s Super Cruise is the only technology that provides hands-free towing capabilities,” the automaker states.
How GM’s Super Cruise Works
GM’s Super Cruise system relies on a mix of high-fidelity LiDAR maps, GPS, and onboard visual and radar sensors to know where the vehicle is on the road.
When Super Cruise is engaged, the vehicle’s precision LiDAR map data, real-time cameras, radars and GPS keep the vehicle traveling along the lane path for a hands-free driving experience.
Super Cruise can also accelerate or brake the vehicle to maintain a selected following gap from a vehicle ahead, and steers to maintain lane position.
