Nearly 253,000 Ford Explorers Recalled Due To A Potential Rollaway Hazard
Ford has issued its fourth significant recall of the month for more than 252,900 Explorers and Police Interceptor Utility vehicles due to a driveshaft disconnect that could cause a rollaway, just days after its previous one for Escapes.
Model years 2020-22 Explorer and Police Interceptor Utility cars are affected.
When the vehicle is placed in Park without the parking brake on, the rear-axle horizontal mounting bolt may fracture and cause the driveshaft to separate, potentially leading in a rollaway and increasing the danger of a crash.
Dealers will either replace the bushing and axle cover or update the electronic parking brake software, depending on the vehicle; either case, the repair will be free.
Ford will begin notifying owners on June 6, but anyone with additional questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s recall number is 22S27), call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or go to the agency’s website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
