Sterling Bank Partners With Nigerian-built Electric Bus Maker, To Offer Shuttle Services In V.I Lagos

Sterling Bank Plc partners with Borno State-based all-electric bus maker, Mustapha Gajibo.

Partnership will see the introduction of EV bus shuttle services along Victoria Island Lagos.

It will see the construction of solar-powered charging stations along Adeola Odeku, in Victoria Island.

Last year, Mustapha said his electric-powered buses can go 200-kilometers on fully charged battery-packs.

He further explained that the battery-pack can be fully charged in 35 minutes using solar powered charging platforms.

Sterling Bank Plc has reportedly partnered with Mustapha Gajibo, a Borno State-based automobile engineer and MD Phoenix Renewables Ltd, who converts Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)-vehicles into battery-powered ones.

According to a tweet shared by Ovie Ali Onovwo-Omasoro, the partnership will see the introduction of all-electric bus shuttle services along Victoria Island Lagos, and as well as the construction solar-powered charging stations along the route.

“Sterling Bank is partnering with the man who builds solar buses from Borno, Mustapha Gajibo, to build Nigeria’s first commercial solar-powered charging station in Adeola Odeku, VI. The buses built in Borno will run services in Victoria Island Lagos, and charge here”, said Ovie, noting that he meant battery-powered buses and not Solar-powered ones.

Just last year, Gajibo attracted the attention of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Jelani Aliyu, after showing off some of his works, including electric, solar-powered commercial buses and tricycles.

Explaining why he moved from just just putting battery-packs into ICE vehicles to producing his own electric 12-seater buses from scratch, Gajibo said :

“We have move a step forward from electrifying buses to full design and fabrication of electric buses locally in Maiduguri, Nigeria. When completed it will be a 12 seater fully air conditioned smart electric bus with a range of 200km on one charge. Endless possibilities…” Gajibo tweeted via his official Twitter handle.

He added that :

“With this piece of technology of ours, we were able maintain the cost of transportation low within our city even though pump price soar across the world. “Endless possibilities”

According to Mustapha, his electric-powered buses would be able to go 200-km on fully charged battery-packs. He further explained that the battery-pack can be fully charged in 35 minutes using solar powered charging platforms.
