The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched its second special Tesla crash investigation in less than a week after a Tesla Model Y on autopilot mode crashed into a Michigan state police car.
The all-electric mid-size SUV was being driven by a 22-year-old man during the early morning crash on Wednesday. Fortunately, nobody was injured during the crash as the police were reportedly responding to another car that hit a deer.
The young Tesla driver was issued two citations for driving with a suspended license and also for failure to move over.
This incident is the second time a Tesla will be crashing into another vehicle in less than a week. Last week Thursday, on March 11, another Tesla car likely on autopilot also crashed under a moving trailer in Detroit.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened investigations at least 14 times into Tesla vehicle crashes since 2016. The Tesla autopilot self-driving system has been responsible for at least three fatal crashes in the U.S.
So the question now is : Are self-driving cars 100 percent safe?
Even Tesla has said it times without numbers that drivers must be ready to intervene at all times as its Autopilot and “full self-driving” are driver-assistance systems.
Tesla self-driving system currently allows you to take your hands off the steering wheel for a short time.
