The Tesla Cybertruck Gets A Significant Price Cut

Tesla is adding a new base version of the Cybertruck with four-wheel drive for $59,990, a $20,000 reduction from the previous starting price of $79,990. At the same time, the automaker reduced the price of the top version of the Cyberbeast by $15,000.

Sales of the controversial Cybertruck have so far fallen short of Tesla’s expectations, prompting the Texas-based electric vehicle maker to make significant price adjustments. The new entry-level four-wheel drive version is now available from $59,990, while the former base model, now labeled Premium All-Wheel Drive, is still listed at $79,990. This makes an electric pickup more affordable than ever. While the Cybertruck still doesn’t reach the $40,000 base price originally promised by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the price cut is a significant step toward attracting new customer groups.

That step seems necessary, as Tesla is currently selling only about 5,000 Cybertrucks per quarter, which is less than 10 percent of the originally projected annual volume. At the same time, the manufacturer is reportedly facing high inventory levels, with Elon Musk reportedly ordering his other companies to buy unsold vehicles from inventory in October.

The new, discounted Cybertruck isn’t stripped bare; it offers more features than the former rear-wheel-drive base model, which was discontinued at $70,000. There’s also an adaptive suspension, which isn’t as airy as the more expensive models but still has the ability to adjust.

The new entry-level all-wheel-drive variant delivers 325 kW and approximately 523 kilometers of range. Compared to the $20,000 more expensive Premium all-wheel drive, towing power is reduced from around 5 to 3.4 tonnes. There are also differences in equipment details. Along with the new base model Cybertruck, the company has also slashed the price of the top variant, Cyberbeast, by $15,000—from $114,990 to $99,990.
