Toyota China Recalls Over 500,000 Vehicles For Various Issues
It was reported on December 1 that Toyota China and Toyota’s two joint ventures in China, FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota, will recall approximately 570,000 vehicles produced from 2018 to 2023.
The specific details
FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. based on the “Regulations on the Recall Management of Defective Automobile Products”, the “Implementation Measures of the Regulations on the Recall Management of Defective Automobile Products,” and the “Regulations on the Management of Motor Vehicle Emission Recalls” According to the requirements, a recall plan has been filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the following vehicles will be recalled from now on.
- FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some Corolla cars produced between August 6, 2019, and July 11, 2023, a total of 350,021 vehicles.
- GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some Highlander vehicles produced between October 13, 2018, and January 14, 2022, totaling 157,458 vehicles.
- Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recalled some imported RX cars produced between September 4, 2018, and September 6, 2022, a total of 68,434 vehicles.
The vehicles within the scope of this recall have insufficient pressure resistance of the internal parts of the high-pressure fuel pump, and wear may occur inside the fuel pump, resulting in cracks in the welding parts of the fuel pump due to stress concentration. In extreme cases, fuel may leak from the cracks. If it comes into contact with external fire sources, there is a risk of fire. At the same time, fuel leaks and evaporates, causing unreasonable emission hazards.
FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will inspect the high-pressure fuel pumps for vehicles within the recall scope free of charge and replace parts that do not meet the requirements with improved high-pressure fuel pumps to eliminate safety hazards and unreasonable discharge hazards.
Emergency measures: Before recall and repair, the vehicle should try to avoid being close to fire sources; if the user finds a fuel smell or fuel leakage, he should stop using the vehicle and contact the dealer for disposal.
