Volkswagen Plans To Catch-up With Tesla After Admitting To Its Lead In EV Tech

Volkswagen plans to catch-up with Tesla after admitting to its lead in software and self-driving programs in internal leak.
It’s no news that Tesla is plainly ahead of other automakers in terms of electric car technologies.
The US automaker not only boasts one of the longest range EVs around, but its Autopilot semi-autonomous driving tech and over-the-air-updates is now giving other automakers sleepless nights.
According to a leaked internal document, obtained by Automobilwoche, Volkswagen CEO, Herbert Diess, said he was worried about Tesla’s lead in software and self-driving fields.
In front of the top managers of the Volkswagen group, Herbert Diess; who attests to Tesla’s superior software competence, plans to attack electric car pioneer with a catch-up plan.
Herbert Diess said :
“The race for the future of the car is really open,”
“What worries me the most is the capabilities in the assistance systems,”
“500,000 Teslas function as a neural network that continuously collects data and provides the customer a new driving experience every 14 days with improved properties.
“No other automobile manufacturer can do that today”
The Volkswagen CEO also presented a graph that compared Tesla’s valuation to VW’s, which happens to be about half of what US electric automaker, Tesla is.
“And that despite our valuable brands like Porsche, Audi, VW, Bentley, and the others”
The CEO admitted that they still have a “long way” to catch up to Tesla.
Few months back, autogiant, Daimler, in a bid to learn one or two things from Tesla, highjacked a rented Model X; dismantled and re-assembled the electric vehicle before returning the rental car.
