Daimler Converts Mercedes-Benz Citaro Bus Into Mobile ICU To Transport COVID-19 Patients (Photos)

Daimler Buses converts Mercedes-Benz Citaro into special Mobile Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to transport COVID-19 patients.
The fully equipped mobile hospital is now the largest intensive care ambulance in Germany.
Daimler Buses has converted an intercity bus into special transportation for COVID-19 patients at its plant in Neu-Ulm.
The bus, based on the Mercedes-Benz Citaro, was converted into a high-capacity ICU ambulance by a team of 12 employees from bus production. It took them just 15 working days to complete the conversion.
The mobile hospital is now the largest intensive care ambulance in Germany. It will be used by DRK-Rettungsdienst Heidenheim-Ulm gGmbH (German Red Cross Emergency Medical Services Heidenheim-Ulm).
The vehicle is a loan. Initially, it will be available to the German Red Cross (DRK) for a period of six months.
The joint project is supported by the University Hospital in Ulm. The hospital will provide specialized medical staff; including two intensive-care doctors; three paramedics; and two ambulance officers.
SWU Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm GmbH (public utility company), who is also part of the project, will provide drivers and maintenance personnel.

Till Oberwörder, Head of Daimler Buses, explained :
“Among other professions, it is currently the staff in hospitals and care facilities who are working steadfastly and who particularly deserve our respect.
“Therefore, I am delighted that we are able to support the DRK by supplying transportation capacity.”
“As a bus manufacturer, we want to contribute to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic at a local level”
Features Of The Bus
On the outside, the bus features a blue light and a siren on the rooftop as warning signals.
Inside, the mobile ICU boasts four complete intensive care beds and four electro-hydraulic wheeled stretchers fitted with a loading system.
Other features includes four intensive care ventilators, four monitoring screens, as well as a sonography unit and a blood gas analysis device.
To reduce the risk of infecting the driver with COVID-19 virus, the bus also has partition wall that separates the front from the rear, as well as a different ventilation system.
