Capsized Cargo Ship With 4,200 Hyundai Cars Aboard Will Be Cut Into Pieces With A Giant Chain
Till this moment, the capsized Hyundai cargo ship is still full of 4,200 brand new cars; primarily Kia and Hyundai cars and SUVs, that were bound for the Middle East.
Salvage operation involves using a massive ship-cutting chain to slice through the entire vessel.
These process means chopping it into eight smaller chunks that can be lifted onto barges and taken away.

Last year, a Middle-East bound cargo ship carrying about 4,200 Hyundai motors and Kia motors cars capsized and caught fire off the coast of Georgia.
Thankfully, all 24 crew members that were on board the cargo ship, named MV Golden Ray, were rescued alive.

The 656-foot vehicle carrier is owned by Hyundai Glovis; a Hyundai motor’s ocean freight logistics company. It was built in 2017 and has a capacity to carry 6,933 vehicles.
The cause of the capsizing is still under investigation.

As of December 20, the ship’s rudder, propeller and over 320,000 gallons of oil and water have been removed.
Now, salvage operation is about to begin, newly a year after the incident. This involves using a massive ship-cutting chain to slice through the entire vessel.

These process means chopping it into eight smaller chunks that can be lifted onto barges and taken away.
The operation’s director told reporters that :
“We expect fires”
