Maersk Stardelhorn : Largest Cargo Ship To Ever Berth On Nigerian Water Received At Onne Port

Onne Port in rivers receives Maersk Stardelhorn cargo ship, the largest sea vessel to dock in any Nigerian port.

The 5 year old vessel has an overall length of 299.92 metres and a width of 48.2 metres.

The vessel’s gross tonnage is 94730 while its container capacity is 10000 TEU.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has successfully berthed the largest ever vessel on Nigerian water at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), Onne in Rivers State.

The vessel, the Maersk Stardelhorn, with an overall length of 299.92 metres and width of 48 metres, is the largest to ever berth in any Nigerian port.

The news was announced by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on its twitter page :

“The Nigerian Ports Authority is pleased to announce the successful berthing of the biggest Container vessel to ever call at any Nigerian port”

According to a NPA spokesperson, the successful berthing is as a result of 5-day preparations for the arrival of the massive vessel from Cotonou, Benin Republic.

“We deployed 3 TUG Boats with 3 Pilots from Onne Port Complex”

“The successful arrival of this vessel has showcased the expertise of NPA’s Ports Operations”

The Maersk Stardelhorn is a container ship built in 2015 (5 years old). The massive ship is registered and currently sailing under the flag of Singapore.

The vessel’s overall (LOA) is 299.92 m and a beam of 48.2 m. Her gross tonnage is 94730 and deadweight is 117172.

Maersk Stardelhorn’s container capacity is 10000 TEU. The ship is operated by Maersk line A/S.
