Toyota Confirms It Will Discontinue Sales Of Land Cruiser SUV In US After 2021
Toyota has confirmed that the Land Cruiser will be discontinued in the United States after the 2021 model year.
Low sales is forcing Toyota to kill its longest-running nameplate in the United States.
Since 2006, the Toyota Land Cruiser has failed to break 4,000 units a year in the United States.
Toyota already sells what is essentially the same SUV under the Lexus LX nameplate.
Despite its extra cost, the LX still outsells the pricey Land Cruiser every year.
The Middle East and Australia are Toyota Land Cruiser’s biggest market.
Japanese automaker Toyota has confirmed the rumour that surfaced online earlier this year that the high-riding Land Cruiser SUV will be killed in the America market in 2021.
In a confirmation email sent to Road & Track, Toyota said that the the current-generation Land Cruiser, which starts at $86,880, will be the last model on the American market.
Toyota said in a statement that :
“The Toyota Land Cruiser has been a legendary name for more than 60 years.
While it will be discontinued in the United States after the 2021 model year, we remain committed to the large SUV segment and will continue to explore future products that celebrate the Land Cruiser’s rich off-road history. We encourage loyal enthusiasts and intrepid adventurers to stay tuned for future developments.”

Land Cruiser is Toyota’s longest-running nameplate in the United States. The current 200-series SUV has been in production since 2007. But low sales in the American region, mainly due to pricing and bad fuel economy, has prompted Toyota to kill the SUV.
Toyota plans to continue selling the SUV by introducing a new-generation model by 2022, with the Middle East and Australia being Toyota Land Cruiser’s biggest market.
Toyota already sells what is essentially the same SUV under the Lexus LX nameplate in America. Despite its extra cost, when options are added, the ultra-luxury LX still outsells the pricey Land Cruiser every year.
Last year, Japanese automaker Toyota announced it had sold 10 million Land Cruisers worldwide over the course of 68 years.
