Ford Recalls 192,000 Transit Connect Vans For Transmission Issue

Ford is recalling more than 192,000 Transit Connect vans from the 2013 through 2021 model years because a faulty part in the transmission could allow the vehicles to roll away even though the shifter appears to be in Park.

The problem is with the connection between the shifter cable and the transmission. If the connection fails, it may appear that the vehicle is in Park even though it isn’t. It would be possible to turn off the engine and exit the vehicle with no warning messages or chimes indicating that the vehicle is not in Park. If this happens, the vehicle is at risk of rolling away.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 192,080 Ford Transit Connect vans sold in the U.S. and 12,629 sold in Canada, all from the 2013 through 2021 model years.

The problem: A bushing that connects the shifter cable to the transmission could break, degrade, or detach over time. If this happens, the shifter may appear to be in Park even though it is not.

The fix: Ford dealerships will replace the bushing and add a protective cable to keep it from getting damaged, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Ford will begin contacting owners of affected vehicles on June 28. Owners can also contact Ford at 800-392-3673.

NHTSA campaign number: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet released a campaign number for this recall. Ford’s own number is 21S24.
