Kebbi is a state in north-western Nigeria with its capital at Birnin Kebbi. The state was created out of a part of Sokoto State in 1991. Kebbi State is bordered by Sokoto State, Niger State, Zamfara State, Dosso Region in the Republic of Niger and the nation of Benin. It has a total area of 36,800 km2 (14,200 sq mi).

Travel Advisory: June 2021

Reports of banditry and kidnap have been logged in the state, and the threat of insurgency exists, although these are recorded at manageable levels.

The state runs an interstate security program with neighbouring Zamfara and Sokoto states, and this helps keep insecurity at manageable levels.

Foreigners and high-profile travellers face higher levels of risk, as they are often viewed as easy pickings by local gangs, and these persons should consider employing the services of close protection officers as a form of target hardening to discourage the possibility of attack.

Basic security precautions should suffice to ensure personal safety within the state, however certain areas carry higher risk levels and may require additional layers of security.

These include villages in Baguda LGA, Danko, Bunza and Jega LGA being areas of interest as well.
