Polestar Achieves 10-80% EV Charging In 10 Minutes, Almost As Quick As Refueling At Petrol Station
Polestar achieves 10-80 percent EV charging in just 10 minutes, nearly the time it takes to fill up a tank at petrol station.
Using StoreDot’s unique silicon-based cells, Polestar achieved charging speeds in excess of 350 kW during a test on its prototype EV.
Polestar said we should expect to see this type of battery in its production Electric Vehicle in two to three years time.

Polestar, in conjunction with StoreDot, the world’s leading advanced battery provider, has managed to fast charge a Polestar 5 prototype from 10-80 per cent in just 10 minutes in a major breakthrough in EV charging technology.
Using StoreDot’s unique silicon-based cells, the test achieved charging speeds in excess of 350 kW, bringing typical EV charging session to nearly the time it takes to fill a tank at the petrol station.

“What we did this month is, I believe, a world first. For a standard vehicle without any novel cooling systems, we are looking at charging speeds I haven’t seen anywhere else. We reached consistent speeds of 310-380 kW,” explains Polestar Battery System Chief Engineer, Jens Groot.
“With charging times rapidly decreasing and ranges sometimes topping 500 kilometres (including both Polestar 3 and Polestar 4), there is no better time to own an electric vehicle than today.”

StoreDot’s silicon cells charge speed doesn’t change throughout the Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) process, whether it is stopped at 10 percent or 60 percent, bringing the experience of filling up a car at the petrol station.
But when can we expect to see this type of battery in a production Polestar that could allow up 200 miles EV range in 10 minute or as quick as refueling a car at the filling station?
“We typically have a development cycle of two to three years, so I’d say we could put this into production within that time period.” Jens added.
