BMW Set For The X4 Replacement In The Guise Of The iX4
The X4, as we know it, is likely just months, if not weeks, away from retirement, according to BMWblog. The German manufacturer has already confirmed that a direct replacement is not planned. Why? It believes that the enlarged second-generation X2 can indirectly fill its role in the lineup.
Still, Munich never sleeps, and the return of the X4 badge is more a matter of when than if. A new report suggests that the all-electric model will arrive late next year.
The BMW iX4 has been rumored for about three years now, with the internal codename “NA7” revealed. Production of the coupe-SUV is reportedly scheduled to begin in November 2026 at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen. The Hungarian plant is set to open soon, and series production of the iX3 (“NA5”) will begin at the end of next month.
According to a BMW insider who posted details on the Bimmer Post forums, the M Performance iX4 will follow. It is scheduled to enter production in March 2027. In addition, the X4 M (“ZA7”) could arrive later to round out the lineup.
The iX4 should have a sleeker, more aerodynamic body than the iX3, which boasts a drag coefficient of 0.24, but the iX4 could be even more aerodynamic.
The maximum WLTP range could then exceed 805 kilometers, which is the iX3 50 xDrive model.
The iX4 will be priced higher than the equivalent iX3. It will also be slightly less practical, with a sloping roofline that reduces headroom and cargo space in the rear.
Despite this, the clever packaging of the dedicated Neue Klasse platform should make it impressively spacious, especially compared to the outgoing X4.
While the conventionally designed iX3 could also be produced in Mexico in the future at a factory in San Luis Potosi, its iX4 sibling will apparently be assembled exclusively in Hungary.
However, before the iX4 arrives, the second Neue Klasse model to debut will be the i3 “NA0”, aimed at sedan lovers.
