China’s 36-lane toll station brought to a standstill as millions heads home after the national holiday.
24-hour traffic jam spread out into dozens of lanes before squeezing back into a four-lane bottleneck.
Estimated 2.43 billion cross-regional trips were made during the eight-day long (Oct 1 and Wednesday) national holiday.
Railways responsible for 153 million passenger trips (+2.6%) while Waterways saw 11.67 million passengers (+4.2%).
Civil aviation handled 19.17 million (+3.4%) while road network saw about 2.25 billion passenger trips (+6.5%.

A trending footage captured by drone shows thousands of vehicles lined up at China’s busiest toll station at Wuzhuang as travelers head home during the last day of the 8-day National Day on Wednesday.
The aerial footage taken at night shows endless lines of red lights as more 120,000 vehicles crawls through the Wuzhuang toll plaza, which boasts 36 lanes in both directions.

Wednesday’s rush led to a 24-hour bumper-to-bumper traffic jam that spread out into dozens of lanes before squeezing back into a four-lane bottleneck.
The Ministry of Transport estimates that 2.43 billion cross-regional trips were made during the eight-day long (Oct 1 and Wednesday) national holiday in China, averaging 304 million trips a day.

By mode of transport, railways were responsible for an estimated 153 million passenger trips (up 2.6 percent) while Waterways saw 11.67 million passengers (up 4.2 percent).
Civil aviation handled 19.17 million (up 3.4 percent) while road network, including expressways and national highways, saw about 2.25 billion passenger trips (up 6.5 percent), according to local news.
