Covid-19: New York Uses Refrigerated Trailers As Makeshift Morgue

In anticipation of more coronavirus deaths in New York, makeshift refrigerated trailers are being stationed outside hospitals. The trailers are to be used as makeshift morgues. They have been positioned outside two hospitals on as New York City. This is happening as the city deals with the surging death count in the epicentre of the US coronavirus pandemic.
The makeshift morgues are clear signs of the huge national health crisis that the US is confronting.
In New York, 385 people have died from the virus. The State has about 37,000 coronavirus cases. Death toll from the coronavirus is about 1,100.

The last time New York took such drastic measures as this was after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This was when the city medical examiner’s office was tasked with identifying tens of thousands of body parts from the 2,753 people killed in the World Trade Center collapse.
Multiple refrigeration trucks were lined up at the makeshift morgue site along 30th Street and the FDR Drive parkway near Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

Trailers and white tents were also set up outside the New York Bellevue Hospital Center, which is adjacent to the medical examiner’s building.
At least 281 people have died from Covid-19 across the city, Mayor Bill De Blasio said Thursday. There are 21,873 confirmed cases of the virus.
Davis noted the refrigerated trucks are not specifically for coronavirus cases. They’re intended to help alleviate the morgue space at hospitals if needed. The trailers will be used if the hospital morgues reach capacity.
