The End Of The Mercedes-AMG EQS Is Close

Published

on

Mercedes’ poor electric vehicle sales prompted the company to take a bold step earlier this year by discontinuing the EQS AMG. This decision marks the first of several upcoming discontinuations in the months ahead. Following two years of declining electric car sales, 2025 is viewed as a pivotal year for manufacturers’ strategies.

Brands are wary, as both internal and external analysts predict continued high risks in this area. There’s little room for further missteps in a year defined by critical decisions, and timeliness is essential.

Declining Sales: A Major Factor

Declining electric vehicle sales are impacting all brands, including major players like Mercedes. Consequently, the German automaker is implementing its first significant action this year. Last summer, the company had to scale back production of its EQS luxury electric sedan due to lacklustre demand and is now entirely ceasing sales of its sports variant.

According to well-informed German sources, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ has not yet left the production lines but will do so from mid-spring. A decision that cannot be implemented immediately, as it requires a series of preparations at the operational and marketing level, informing the entire dealer network that this flagship Mercedes-Benz’s most luxurious electric model will soon cease to be available.

During these months, already-ordered units will be produced, and a maximum deadline for ordering new vehicles will be set, which will deplete parts stocks. Mercedes is getting rid of a model that may disappoint customers with its design, but the same cannot be said for its performance, since it has two electric motors and a power of 658 hp.

The excellent 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.8 seconds could have been made even better. When the optional “Dynamic Plus” package is ordered, which increases power to 761 hp, the acceleration time is shortened to 3.4 seconds.

The list price exceeds 170,000 euros, and the car is still available in the configurator. However, despite the luxury and prestige that the brand enjoyed with this model, it will be remembered that the EQS AMG was one of those that remained on sale the shortest—barely three years.
