Teaser Images Of The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Unveiled Ahead Of February Debut

Hyundai has released revealing pictures of the upcoming IONIQ 5. Previewed by the 45 concept, the production model will be introduced next month and become the first electric vehicle based on the new E-GMP architecture. In front, the Ioniq 5 features block-like daytime running lamps that Hyundai says contain “arrays of pixel-inspired lights”. The design also contains Parametric Pixels; in fact, there is no tinier unit of digital imaging. A unique clamshell hood reduces typical panel gaps and succeeds in creating a decidedly modern, sophisticated feel.
The new E-GMP platform is a rear-wheel-drive setup and a powerful electric motor on the rear axle. The Ioniq 5 will come standard with an additional motor on the front axle because it’s an SUV making it an all-wheel-drive. The architecture will also be capable of fast-charging that can add 62 miles of range within just five minutes using the WLTP standard, and according to a recent leak, the Ioniq 5 will boast a maximum range of 342 miles. On the performance, the Ioniq 5 will have an output of 309 hp (230 kW / 313 PS). This will reportedly enable the crossover to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds.
Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center, SangYup Lee said in a statement. “Ioniq 5 presents an all-new customer experience through innovative EV design that is evocative of the icon that established Hyundai’s design DNA,”. He further added, “Our dedicated BEV lineup brand will redefine the relationship between people and their cars.”
