Vehicle Inspection Office inducts Special Road Traffic Mayors of Anambra State at the VIO Inspection Centre, Awka.

Special Road Traffic Mayors are inducted across the Federation as adjunct officers to help in traffic management and control.

They become policymakers and influencers of road safety and vehicle worthiness management wherever they find themselves.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Sir Afam Mbanefo says efficient and effective collaboration between the Vehicle Inspection Offices in the thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory and the Federal Road Safety Corps will ensure better safety on Nigerian roads.





Sir Afam was speaking at the induction of special road traffic Mayors of Anambra State held at the VIO Inspection Centre, Awka.

The Special Road Traffic Mayors are inducted across the Federation as adjunct officers who will help in traffic management and control as well as become policymakers and influencers of road safety and vehicle worthiness management wherever they find themselves.

The inductees include the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Anambra State, Chief Uchenna Okafor, the Managing Director, Anambra State Road, and Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, Mr. Pat Obiefuna, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Vehicle Inspection Office, Mr. Ralph Okoye while the Mr. Mark Achuam was inducted as the Squadron Commander, Special Road Traffic Mayors’ Command, Anambra State Command.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Transport Commissioner who was also inducted as a special road traffic mayor at the event remarked that the present administration facilitated a seamless better relationship with the FRSC with the support of her Corps Marshall, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi which engendered a better partnership between the VIO and the FRSC in the state and went further to say that remarkable reforms have been initiated in the transport sector that must be retained.

On his part, the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Chief Okafor who expressed joy for being found worthy to be inducted into the mayorial, asked for more funding for Vehicle Inspection Office as it is a huge revenue generation source for the state government.





The Chairman, National Conference Of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officers of the Federation, Sir Paul Bepeh, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on VIO, Mr. Okoye explained that the Special Road Traffic Mayors corps was set up to increase stakeholder participation in the road safety and traffic management in the state and the Federation.

The induction of the Special Road Traffic Mayors by Sir Paul and inspection of the new inductees, while they performed their first official function, was the highpoint of the ceremony.
