Ferrari could make a move that will please some of the most ardent fans – in Maranello, they are seriously considering a manual transmission for the 12-cylinder model.

Ferrari last offered a manual transmission back in 2012 on the California model, and since then, all cars from Maranello have used automatic transmissions. But now things could change.

According to the Motor1.com portal, Ferrari is seriously considering the possibility of the 12Cylindri model getting a manual gearbox, already during the summer of 2026.

The main reason is not technology, but emotion. The manual transmission is no longer the fastest solution today, but for some Ferrari customers, it represents a special feeling of connection with the car.

The Ferrari 12Cilindri is, anyway, conceived as a kind of celebration of the classic Ferrari recipe – a big naturally aspirated V12 up front, rear-wheel drive and a focus on the driving experience. This is precisely why some customers believe that a manual transmission would perfectly suit the character of the car.

Motor1 recalls that in recent years, Ferrari has noticed a growing interest in a more classic and analog driving feeling, especially among the brand’s most loyal customers.

The Ferrari 12Cilindri itself is almost an exotic car today, even without a manual transmission. It is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that develops 830 hp and spins up to 9,500 rpm.

In the age of electrification, hybrids and “downsizing”, such an engine already acts as the last great reminder of the old era of super-sports cars. That’s why the combination of the naturally aspirated V12 engine and the manual gearbox would represent an almost perfect Ferrari for many fans.

If Ferrari approves the project, the manual gearbox will likely be reserved for a limited-series or special edition aimed at the marque’s most important customers.

Ferrari also has to solve technical challenges. Modern cars like the 12Cylindri were developed primarily for fast automatic transmissions, so adapting a manual transmission would require additional development.

Ferrari has not yet officially confirmed the arrival of a manual transmission for the 12Cylindri. Still, the mere fact that the possibility is being seriously considered is enough to excite fans of classic super sports cars. Because a Ferrari with an atmospheric V12 engine and a manual gearbox sounds like something that has almost disappeared from the modern car industry today.
