Ford Unveils Its All Electric F-150 Lightning Pickup Truck Which Is Fast And Powerful (Photos)
Ford’s best selling pickup truck and best selling vehicle ever has gone full electric and it’s like lightning. Introducing the F-150 Lightning which is the company’s 1st ever electric pickup truck. When it launches in early 2022 every F-150 Lightning will be four-wheel drive. Four trim levels will be available including a commercial-oriented work truck, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. The truck will only be built with a 5-foot-5-inch bed and full four-door crew cab configurations.
The Lightning name was used back in the early ’90s on a high-performance version of the F-150 in the ninth-gen truck featuring a 240-horsepower, 5.8-litre V8. The curvier tenth-gen truck got the special trim too, featuring a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 producing 360-380 hp. But this F-150 Lightning will blow the doors off all of them, and a few supercars too.
The F-150 Lightning with the extended range battery pack is expected to offer a 0-60 mph sprint in the mid-4 seconds, packing an estimated combined output of 563 HP and 775 lb-ft of torque from its dual-motor setup. The entry-level unit will achieve 230 miles of driving range and the extended range battery being EPA-estimated at 300 miles. Models fitted with the standard range battery will offer a combined 426 HP and the same 775 lb-ft of torque, again from a dual-motor setup. The new Lightning is also the first F-Series truck to feature an independent rear suspension, a change that significantly reduces unsprung mass and improves handling and comfort levels. Payload capability is rated at up to 2,000 lbs while towing capacity is rated at up to 10,000 lbs.
Lariat and Platinum trims of the 2022 Lightning will receive the same 15.5-inch touchscreen and Sync 4A infotainment as the Mustang Mach-E, which uses a flat interface to allow occupants to easily switch between functions. Recently used apps appear along the bottom of the screen, making it easier to swap between frequently used features – navigation and audio, for example. Sync 4A will also come with an embedded FordPass app, which syncs to the owner’s phone to provide vehicle functions like cooling or warming the interior, opening and closing the frunk, and the aforementioned charging commands and route planners. The F-150 Lightning has lots of techs that will be too much to mention but aside from all these amazing features, the truck is more affordable than most of its rivals.
