The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated N2.74 trillion (+127% over H1 2023) in revenue during the first half of 2024 (January and June), which it said surpasses its target of N2.54 trillion for the period by 8 percent.

In addition, Customs says it collected N1.395 trillion for the second quarter, which also exceeded the quarterly target by 10% and represented a 131% increase over Q2 2023.





According to the agency, the remarkable success in the first half of 2024 was aided by the e-auction platform as well as the 90-day window for the regularisation of import duties on vehicles improperly imported into the country.

“Key initiatives contributing to this success include the e-auction platform, which generated over N1.34 billion, and the 90-day duty payment window for uncustomed vehicles, adding N4.37 billion to the revenue.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered the immediate re-inspection of Dangote trucks as well as recertification of their drivers for maximum compliance with safety standards.

He stated this following the tragic road traffic crash that involved a Dangote truck on Wednesday 31 July, 2024 on the Nyanya-Maraba busy highway, which led to the death of 5 people while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A statement by the Acting Corps Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide on Thursday August 1st (today) stated that the speeding Dangote truck suffered brake failure before colliding into 9 vehicles.

Amid ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance Protests, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 25% fare slash on all government-owned transport schemes, including BRT, Blue Line Train and Ferry, aimed at providing relief and comfort to the populace.

Sanwo-Olu, who made this known in a statement signed by Commissioner for Information in the state, Gbenga Omotoso, hailed Lagosians for choosing to embrace peace while expressing their views and constitutional right to protest.

The reintroduction of the 25% fare rebate comes just two months after the State Government ended it on June 2nd, 2024, which was introduced as part of measures to cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on July 31st launched 2,000 commercial electric bikes and electric and CNG-powered tricycles (Keke) aimed at mitigating the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs.

For easy recharging of the electric bikes, the Ogun State Government also launched three (3) Battery Swap Stations, where riders can swap their nearly dead battery-packs with a fully-charged one in about five minutes – allowing the e-bikes to go up to 75-80 kilometres before needing a recharge.

According to the Ogun State Government, each of the three (3) Battery Swap Stations has the capacity to charge 24 batteries simultaneously – meaning 72 batteries can be charged across all three stations.
