Porsche’s New Approach: Increase Revenue by Selling Fewer Vehicles
Porsche faces declining global sales and market challenges, leading to a shift in strategy. CEO Michael Leiters is prioritizing higher profit margins over volume, adjusting production to meet lower demand while continuing to expand the model lineup, including the upcoming 718 series with both combustion and electric options.
According to a report by FAZ, the development of the anticipated three-row SUV, internally codenamed K1, remains uncertain. Originally conceived as a fully electric flagship vehicle positioned above the Cayenne, Porsche has reportedly revisited its strategy to incorporate combustion engine options, leaving the project’s future in doubt.
Beyond the K1, Porsche continues to explore the potential for a new performance model situated above the 911. Management previously indicated that both a new hypercar and a grand touring vehicle are under consideration, with final decisions contingent upon market feedback. Further clarity regarding these additions and the upcoming compact crossover—slated to replace the first-generation Macan—is expected later this fall.
In an effort to address rising operational expenditures, which CEO Michael Leiters recently described as having “spiraled out of control”, Porsche intends to strengthen its collaboration with Audi. While the CEO declined to address rumors regarding potential workforce reductions of 2,000 to 4,000 employees, he confirmed that a comprehensive cost-cutting program is expected to be finalized before the summer break.
