Outrage Over Purchase Of Luxury Car For India Prime Minister
The India Congress has slammed its government on Wednesday for purchasing a luxury car for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cavalcade at a time when the economy is suffering as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Special Protection Group added a Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard to the prime minister’s cavalcade.
According to government sources, the new car is a replacement for the prime minister’s BMW, which was discontinued by the German automaker.
Official sources also stated that the SPG security detail has a six-year replacement policy for vehicles used to protect the protectee and that Modi has not given any preference on which vehicles to use.
They also stated that the car costs roughly one-third of the price quoted in the media.
However, Vallabh alleged that the prime minister had changed five cars in seven years.
“In the last two years, people have lost jobs, seen their salaries fall, and businesses have experienced a downturn, but the prime minister’s pace of changing cars has not slowed.” “Why are you buying cars?” he inquired.
According to the Congress spokesperson, India has seen prime ministers who cared about the people rather than those who changed cars every other year.
“In 2014, it was the Mahindra Scorpio, in 2015 it was the BMW 7 Series, in 2017 it was the Toyota Land Cruiser, in 2019 it was the Jaguar Range Rover Vogue, and in 2021 it was the Mercedes Maybach,” he told reporters here.
Taking a swipe at the prime minister’s Made-in-India pitch, Congress claimed Modi hasn’t ridden in an Indian-made vehicle since 2014, when he traveled in a Mahindra Scorpio.
“Vocal for Local, Aatmanirbhar Bharat are just slogans… There is no such thing as an Indian-made car.
“It started with the Scorpio, but the prime minister has never driven an Indian car since,” he said.
“The pandemic has reduced our purchasing power.” We need to think twice before purchasing a new pair of clothes.
“The RBI also reports that consumer sentiment is low,” Vallabh said.
