Stellantis and Maserati in talks with China’s Huawei and JAC to build Maserati-branded EV, China’s Yunjian Insight report.
Under the proposed plan, Maserati will provide the iconic styling and branding, Huawei will provide core technologies.
Chinese automaker, JAC, will be responsible for joint research and development as well as manufacturing in China.
Co-developed models will be launched in two versions, Maextro and Maserati, for both Chinese and global markets respectively.

Huawei and Chinese JAC EV brand partnership saw the creation of Maextro brand and its flagship sedan, Maextro S800.
Maserati and its patent company, Stellantis NV, are reportedly in active negotiations with Huawei and Chinese automaker, JAC, to jointly develop and build new Maserati-branded electric vehicles, according to China’s Yunjian Insight.
Under the proposed plan, Maserati will provide the iconic styling and branding, Huawei will provide core technologies, while JAC will be responsible for joint research and development as well as manufacturing in China.
The co-developed models will be launched in two versions for both Chinese and global markets, with the first model expected to enter mass production in the second half of next year, according to the report.
According to the report, the domestic version will fall under the Maextro brand, a collaboration between Huawei and JAC, while the overseas version will carry the Maserati badge.
The proposed cooperation approach is similar to Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business, which currently features five distinct automotive brands developed in collaboration with major state-owned and private Chinese manufacturers.
Stellantis’ had earlier this week sought help from its Chinese partners, Leapmotor and Dongfeng, to build a new, Vauxhall/Opel C-segment all-electric SUVs as well as Peugeot and Jeep models for both Chinese and European market.
