BMW iX3 Recalled Due To A Risk Of Shock While Charging

Owners of the new BMW iX3 could face an unpleasant surprise – the risk of electric shock when charging the vehicle. In addition, this electric SUV is also being recalled due to a possible defect in the side airbags.
Although the second-generation iX3 has been generally well-received and represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, the start of sales has been marked by two recalls in Germany, one of which sounds particularly worrying.
The first recall, announced at the end of May, concerns 145 vehicles manufactured between November 25, 2025, and February 20, 2026. According to BMW, the problem is with the built-in charger, the component that converts alternating current to direct current. Due to a fault in the charger, the vehicle body may become live while the car is connected to the charger.
BMW points out that no injuries have been reported so far, but they admit that owners “could experience an unpleasant electric shock” if they touch the car at the wrong moment. The solution is simple – on all covered vehicles, the built-in chargers will be replaced, regardless of whether the defect has been determined or not. When it comes to high-voltage electric vehicles, caution is essential. In total, the recall covers 145 cars worldwide, of which 28 are in Germany.
Just a few days later, on June 1, a second recall followed. The problem this time is the side airbags, which BMW says may not be attached to specification. The concern is twofold: the airbag may not deploy properly in a crash, and there is the possibility that the gas generator could detach and strike the occupants in the cabin.
This recall covers a large number of vehicles, 4,843 of them globally, including 1,071 in Germany. These are iX3 models manufactured between December 18, 2025, and May 8, 2026. As with the charging problem, there are no reported accidents or injuries. BMW says that they will check the screws that attach the side airbags to the affected vehicles and, if necessary, correct the irregularities.
