German carmaker ask our customers not to drive their vehicles.

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is recalling almost one million vehicles from around the world because of potential problems with their braking system.
The recall affects a total of 993,407 vehicles, including 70,000 in Germany, according to Germany’s federal transport authority (KBA).

KBA said that vehicles recalled were built between 2004 and 2015 and affected ML and GL series of SUVs and R-Class luxury Multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
“Corrosion on the brake booster can in the worst case lead to the connection between the brake pedal and the braking system being interrupted,” the KBA said.

Mercedes-Benz confirmed the recall in a statement on Saturday, stating that :
“We have found that in some of those vehicles, the function of the brake booster could be affected by advanced corrosion in the joint area of the housing,”
“It might be possible for a particularly strong or hard braking manoeuvre to cause mechanical damage to the brake booster,”it said.
“In such a very rare case, it would not be possible to decelerate the vehicle via the service brake. Thus the risk of a crash or injury would be increased,” it added.

Mercedes said it is starting the recall immediately, adding that the process would involve inspecting the potentially faulty vehicles and replacing parts if necessary.
“The recall process will involve inspecting potentially affected vehicles and, depending on the results of the inspection, replacing the parts where necessary,”
“Until the inspection takes place, we ask our customers not to drive their vehicles.”
