Jaguar Unveils Type 00 Concept That Previews Its Upcoming 4-door GT Set To Debut In Late 2025 - autojosh

Only nine new Jaguars were registered across Europe—including the EU27, UK, and EFTA—during the first five months of the year. This historically low figure is a direct result of the company’s strategic hiatus as it finalizes a radical transition toward an all-electric lineup. With the era of internal combustion engines at an end, the brand is preparing to debut its new grand tourer, the Type 01, this October.

The upcoming model represents a significant departure from Jaguar’s traditional market. Managing Director Rawdon Glover has previously projected that only 15 percent of the brand’s existing clientele will transition to the new model, acknowledging that the majority of current customers may seek alternatives elsewhere.

During a Q&A session following the 2026 Jaguar Land Rover Investor Day, Chief Growth Officer Lennard Hoornik clarified the brand’s new direction. He emphasized that with the Type 01, Jaguar is no longer pursuing high-volume sales, but is instead focused on occupying a highly specific, niche segment of the luxury market.

While this strategy is undeniably bold, we remain fully confident in our direction. We are not pursuing high-volume sales; rather, we are carving out a specialized niche within the luxury market. By establishing a completely new segment, we aim to address individual demand on a case-by-case basis, making comparisons to our previous product range largely irrelevant.

Lennard Hoornik confirmed the new Jaguar Type 01 will feature a unique price point and shift away from the brand’s past attempt to compete with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. He emphasized that the vehicle is exclusively designed as an all-electric grand tourer, dismissing any rumors of combustion engines or range extenders.

The brand’s central philosophy asserts that the implementation of an electric powertrain is the only viable method for producing this specific vehicle.

Lennard Hoornik noted that while rivals rushed their EV launches, Jaguar prioritized a deliberate development process. Former design chief Ian Callum added that the company canceled four projects—including the next-gen XF, F-Pace, F-Type, and electric XJ—to focus exclusively on the Type 01.
