Lexus And Toyota Still Remains The Most Reliable Cars In The US

A survey of the most reliable cars in the US, conducted by a non-profit consumer organization dedicated to product testing, Consumer Reports, showed that Lexus and Toyota are in first place in terms of reliability, while Mercedes and Chrysler are at the bottom of the list of 30 vehicle manufacturers.

Porsche and BMW are in eighth and ninth place, and out of a total of 100 points from the surveyed drivers, they received 66 and 64 points, respectively. The research was done to create a list of the most reliable cars based on the problems that drivers had in the last 12 months with their cars.

According to the vehicle rating agency in the USA, reliability is the most important criteria for car buyers, above safety, affordability, or fuel efficiency.

For its consumer satisfaction survey, Consumer Reports collected data on more than 330,000 vehicles, covering the model range from 2000 to early 2024, and included 17 potential problem areas, including the engine, transmission, in-car electronics, and more, to determine the reliability score for 30 car manufacturers.

Three new problem areas that focus specifically on hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles are also included in the latest ranking list.

Lexus is in first place with 79 points out of a possible 100, Toyota has 79, and Mini 71, followed by Acura with 70 and Subaru with 69 points. Mazda has 67, Porsche 66, BMW 64, KIA 61, Hyundai 56, Buik 54, and Infiniti 53.

Tesla is the first manufacturer to have below 50 points—49, to be exact—followed by Ram, Cadillac, and Nissan with 45 each. Audi is in 19th place. Chevrolet at 20, Dodge at 21. Followed by Ford, Lincoln, GMC, Volvo, and Jeep. In the last three places are Rivian, Mercedes, and Chrysler with 24, 23, and 19 points, respectively,” according to the Consumer Reports survey.

Another piece of research published on the website Visual Capitalist published a list of the most reliable based on breakdowns, where Lexus and Toyota are also in first and second place, followed by Buick, Chevrolet, and Mini, but at the bottom of the list of 30 car manufacturers are Lincoln, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Audi, and Chrysler.

Sedans, hatchbacks, and coupes make up one of the most reliable vehicle categories in the surveys, with an average predicted reliability score of 57 out of 100. SUVs are next with a score of 50, then minivans with a score of 45. Pickups are the least reliable category, with an average score of 41.
