Court Sentence Passenger To Two Weeks Imprisonment For Smoking Aboard Air Peace Flight
An Air Peace passenger who violated the no-smoking rule has been sentenced to two weeks in prison. The culprit was however given an option of N200k fine.

An Air Peace passenger who violated the no-smoking rule has been sentenced to two weeks inprisonment by an Ogba Magistrate Court.
The victim had boarded Air Peace Flight P4 7558 from Sharjah to Lagos on December 11, 2019.
Instead of spending two weeks behind bars, the culprit was however given an option of N200,000 fine.
The Corporate Communications Executive of Air Peace, Stanley Olisa, confirmed the incident. He said the act contravened a standing global aviation regulation of non-smoking in-flight.

Olisa added that,
“Let us use this opportunity to reiterate Air Peace’s commitment to global safety standards. We are fully committed to the safety of our passengers and will not compromise that stance for anything”
Some of the basic rules on flights include wearing a seat-belt during take-off/landing, as well as no smoking whatsoever.
Despite this universal prohibition of inflight smoking, Federal Aviation Administration regulations mandate that functioning ashtrays be located on the doors of all airplane bathrooms. This is because there must be a safe place to dispose of a lit cigarette if someone violates the no-smoking rule.
