Google Updates Its Android Auto To 12.2 And It Comes With New Icons
Google is rolling out a new update to Android Auto, with some changes aimed at bolstering both safety and the user experience. Version 12.2, now readily available for download via the Google Play Store, primarily comes with new nuanced design elements to distinguish between apps that can be used while driving and those that shouldn’t.
You will get grayscale icons for apps that are inaccessible while the vehicle is in motion. This visual cue replaces the previous car icon or “P” symbol overlays. When the car is stationary, these icons revert to their normal colors, signalling their full functionality.
The official changelog also lists stability and performance improvements but provides no details.
Updating to Android Auto 12.2 is straightforward, either through the Google Play Store’s automatic updates or by manually downloading the APK file from a trusted source. However, exercising caution when downloading APKs from third-party websites is essential to avoid potential security risks.
