Peugeot Trademarks New Model Names For Its Next Set Of Vehicles
Peugeot will launch a brand-new 208 next year. The new Peugeot 208 will only be available as the electric e-208 and will be offered alongside the current model with combustion engines. The Peugeot 2008 is set to receive similar treatment. There will be a new 308 as well as a multi-energy SUV that will likely be positioned one step below the 3008 in the Peugeot hierarchy. The French undoubtedly have even more in the pipeline that we know nothing about yet. The fact that Peugeot has registered an arsenal of model names shows that even Peugeot is not entirely sure what the future holds.
Peugeot has, among other things, extended the trademark rights for well-known model names such as those of the 207, the predecessor of the 208. Perhaps even more interesting are the new model names we are encountering: 1008, 608, 6008, 7008, and 8008. Whether Peugeot actually has a series of crossovers and SUVs with those designations in the pipeline remains unclear. We do know, however, that Peugeot is launching a new large station wagon and a new large SUV in China, at least, which the brand previewed with the Concept 6 and Concept 8. These could potentially become the 608 and the 8008, although it is also quite possible that Peugeot simply registered the new names as a precaution.
